19-25. October 2025 – Vienna

What is Congo Week?

Congo Week , launched in 2008 by student and community initiatives, is a global week of action raising awareness of the ongoing conflict as well as the immense human and natural potential of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since then, over 600 universities and communities in more than 75 countries worldwide have participated .

Why is the event so relevant?

  • Raising global awareness : The campaign supports peace, justice and human dignity for Congo Congo Week .

  • Interdisciplinary theme week : Thematic days – starting with an interreligious prayer, through colonial history, the promotion of women, to discussions on raw materials, the climate crisis and fundraising, Congo Week .

  • Connection to global change : The focus on minerals such as cobalt shows Congo as a key region for the green energy transition – relevant for climate protection and sustainable supply chains, Congo Week .

Organization of Congo Week Vienna

In Vienna, the week is organized by the Fondation La Grande , Congo Vienna Action , and Friends of the Congo . The latter is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that has been working for peace and development in Congo since 2004, Congo Week .

Highlights in the program

The theme week is structured around thematically focused days Congo Week :

This is achieved through filmic, scientific and cultural contributions – ideal for education, engagement and discourse.

CSR, Supply Chain Law & Sustainability Reporting: Why you should take action now

  • CSR and due diligence obligations (Supply Chain Act / CSRDD) require companies to take responsibility for the origin and impacts of their supply chains. Congo Week addresses key issues such as cobalt mining, child labor, and environmental protection—precisely the topics that are increasingly relevant in CSR reports.

  • ESG reporting (especially social and governance) is becoming increasingly important for investors. Commitment to social justice and environmental transparency has a positive impact on a company's image and credibility.

  • Positioning as a responsible company : Your participation signals strong corporate values – those who actively support humane conditions and sustainable development also gain influence among stakeholders and experts.

Join now – How you can get involved

  1. Provide rooms or technical infrastructure (projector, etc.)

  2. Organize film screenings, panels, and workshops

  3. Make CSR contributions (financial or in-kind donations)

Vienna – Our Congo Gospel Dance Workshop in Vienna was a complete success! With beaming faces, moving bodies, and unforgettable music, we experienced a day that will stay with us for a long time.

But this workshop was more than just dance – it was an experience of healing and comfort .

Why healing and comfort?

Workshop
Workshop

Anyone who has ever gotten to know a Congolese person knows that despite the most adverse circumstances – from the silent genocide in the Democratic Republic of Congo to everyday challenges – Congolese have not lost their smile and their joy in life .

A key reason for this lies in the music – and not just any music, but in the special Congolese gospel music with its unique dance.

In our workshops, you'll quickly realize that to participate, you need to clear your mind and let go of worries and despair. The movement, the shared dancing in a group, and the opportunity for individual expression within the basic steps create space for inner healing and comfort .

What our participants experienced

Our workshop participants have exactly that

The experience included sharing, community, lots of laughter, and a tangible sense of letting go. Many went home with a catchy tune stuck in their hearts and a radiant smile.

In our culture, dancing brings people together – without any ifs or buts.

Preparing for the new school year with Fondation La Grande

School starts again in September, and the Fondation La Grande is preparing for it. In July, missionaries from the Fondation La Grande traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo with its visionary founder, Evangelist La Grande Mbamba. There, they dedicated a month to building an orphanage and a retirement home for widows, while also bringing joy to widows and orphans with many surprises.

Craft workshop for the orphans

Orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo often dream of doing crafts, traveling, swimming, and filling their summers with special activities like other children. This year, the team from Austria and the Democratic Republic of Congo joined forces in Kinshasa to give the orphans a great start to their summer in July.

With several craft workshops and a trip to the swimming pool, the

Orphans experienced a summer like no other in July 2025. The orphans expressed their joy and gratitude through photos and video messages to the partners and donors of the cultural and aid organization La Grande.

Back to School Campaign

Back to School Aktion
Back to School Aktion

On July 13, 2025, the annual Back to School campaign took place in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As every year, the widows received generous gifts. With donations in kind from Austria and France, the widows and orphans received not only the usual gift packages, but also coloring books, crayons, wigs, African fabrics, and much more. The gifts were received with dancing and praise.

Intercession with Evangelist La Grande

In addition to common prayers, there were also personal intercessions and the opportunity to discuss the concerns of widows and orphans with the founder and pastor, Evangelist La Grande

Mbamba. They were welcomed, listened to, advised, and supported in the newly established executive office.

With praise and thanksgiving, we pass on all the blessing prayers of widows and orphans.

Zeit der Fürbitte und Beratung
Zeit der Fürbitte und Beratung

Our special thanks go first and foremost to God and the board, who tirelessly serve as the voice of the most vulnerable at various events, demonstrations, workshops, and more. Despite family commitments, they sacrifice their free time to bring joy to the widows and orphans through such activities. A heartfelt thank you to all supporters who, through their events, often free of charge, provide the Fondation La Grande with a platform to bring visibility to the suffering, grief, history, but also the hope and joy of the widows and orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Every euro counts and helps, and with God's help we have achieved this together again.

Our next events & workshops

Follow us on all our platforms to take advantage of every opportunity to do good for the widows and orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are present at many self-organized and third-party organized festivals and events, offer additional workshops, and welcome every booking. As always, all proceeds go to projects that help widows and orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

We're not quiet, but loud in word and deed! Join in, it's worth it!
