On April 5, 2025, the volunteer team of the cultural and aid organization Fondation La Grande had the wonderful opportunity to once again collect donations and celebrate Congolese culture through a variety of culinary delicacies. This event aimed to support widows and orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo and enable them a better future. Heartfelt thanks go to the tireless organizers of the Refugee Ball, as well as to the entire dedicated volunteer team of the Fondation La Grande in Austria, who worked passionately for a noble cause until the early hours of the morning. Thanks to their dedication, enriching conversations about the Congo and our valuable work were held, which already makes us look forward to the next Refugee Ball with great anticipation. Every euro counts and unleashes its full power to positively influence the lives of others.

The collected donations have already been successfully delivered to our team in Congo. These funds will go directly towards the construction of a much-needed retirement home for widows and a supervised children's home for orphans, both of which will serve as safe havens.

The Fondation La Grande team wishes all women and girls a happy International Women’s Day.

On March 8, 2025, the widows and orphans in the Democratic Republic of Congo gathered together with the care team. Together they shared a meal fowolling the widows and orphans receiving their presents for Women's day! The orphans had the opportunity to shop at the supermarket on International Women's Day, a "first" for some of them. With $5, they could choose what they desired and then pay for it themselves. They were allowed to keep the change.

Why do we celebrate?

International Women's Day, celebrated every year on March 8, has a special meaning in Congo, especially for widows who often face significant social and financial challenges. International Women's Day is a special occasion for widows and orphans to come together and strengthen one another.

Fondation La Grande is taking this opportunity to raise awareness of the injustices and consequences of the genocide in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the aim of strengthening the rights and social status of widows and women in general.

We celebrate the woman, the widows, the girls, honor them and remember the victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo!

We thank God and all donors for the success of the fundraising campaign.
